As the ceremony and reception is being mapped out in the Sunnyvale / Mountain View marriage, the prenuptials have some interesting connotations for the domain industry.
Seems Yahoo search, their content and search partners will all be welcome into the Google house – all, it seems, except the Yahoo domain partners!
Word out today is that Google are happy to monetize all of the Yahoo network except parked domain names. Im not sure what this is implying or what effect this will have, but to me it all reeks of yet more evidence of Google distancing itself from domain parking.. Gather ye rose buds while ye may people!
I talked to a Yahoo rep a week ago and he said they weren’t sure on parking yet…but I would have been surprised to see Google actually do that (especially after nixing Ask’s subsyndication).
However, if Yahoo can get its targeting technology down, wouldn’t it make sense for Adsense publishers to switch to the Yahoo network? They would basically show Yahoo or Google ads; whichever pay more.
Trust me Austin, its happening..!
So where does that leave professional domainers?
I think eventually parked domain traffic will be relegated to second tier ad networks. Might bring the price of domains down since people will stop renewing nice sounding but mariginal producers with the lower ad payouts.
I Will have to come back again when my course load lets up – however I am taking your RSS feed so I can read your site offline. Thanks.
